Yes We Can Make Allowances for Art

With all the budget cuts that are having to be made, as Democrats work to right America's finances, there are a few bright spots in the President's budget.

Two national programs will actually see increased government funding. The Smithsonian Institution—which received a record 30 million visitors last year at its various museums—will receive an additional $38 million above last year. It plans to allocate $10 million to fund new initiatives that deal with biodiversity, the American experience, world culture, and astronomy; $20 million will be funneled into the National Museum of African American History and Culture, which is due to open in 2015. The Corporation for Public Broadcasting also saw an increase in funding of $20 million, and the Holocaust Museum was given an additional $2 million from last year.--Ruth Mitchell
